One Day Mount Kenya Hike

Itinerary

Early Morning Departure: Depart from your accommodation in Nairobi or Nanyuki after an early breakfast. The drive to Mount Kenya National Park takes approximately 2-3 hours, offering scenic views of the Kenyan highlands.

Arrival at Mount Kenya National Park: Upon arrival at the park gate, complete the registration formalities and meet your experienced guide. The guide will brief you on the day’s activities and safety measures.

Begin the Hike: Start your hike from the Sirimon Gate (2,650m/8,694ft) or Naro Moru Gate, depending on your chosen route. The Sirimon Route is the most popular for a one-day hike, offering gradual ascent and beautiful scenery. The trail takes you through montane forests, bamboo zones, and moorlands.

Scenic Trekking: As you trek through the forest, keep an eye out for wildlife such as colobus monkeys, elephants, and various bird species. The trail is well-marked and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.

Packed Lunch: Enjoy a packed lunch at a scenic spot along the trail, surrounded by the natural beauty of Mount Kenya. This is a perfect opportunity to relax and take in the breathtaking views.

Ascend to Old Moses Camp: Continue your hike towards Old Moses Camp (3,300m/10,827ft). The trail becomes steeper, but the panoramic views of the peaks and valleys make it worthwhile. The hike to Old Moses Camp takes about 3-4 hours from the park gate.

Return Descent: After reaching Old Moses Camp and enjoying the stunning scenery, begin your descent back to the park gate. The descent takes approximately 2-3 hours, allowing more opportunities to spot wildlife and appreciate the diverse vegetation.

Return Journey: In the late afternoon, depart from Mount Kenya National Park and return to your accommodation in Nairobi or Nanyuki, concluding a day filled with adventure and natural beauty.
