1 Day Hiking Mount Meru Climbing | Arusha National Park

Itinerary

Early Morning Departure: Depart from your accommodation in Arusha after an early breakfast. The drive to Arusha National Park takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, offering beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes.

Arrival at Arusha National Park: Upon arrival at the park gate, complete the registration formalities and meet your experienced guide and armed ranger. The ranger is mandatory for the hike due to the presence of wildlife in the park.

Begin the Hike: Start your hike from Momella Gate (1,500m/4,921ft) through lush rainforest. The trail ascends gradually, offering opportunities to spot wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and various bird species.

Scenic Trekking: As you trek through the forest, enjoy the vibrant flora and fauna. The hike to the first resting point, the Maio Falls, takes approximately 2 hours. Take a short break here to enjoy the scenery and have some snacks.

Continue to Miriakamba Hut: Continue your ascent towards Miriakamba Hut (2,514m/8,248ft). The trail becomes steeper, but the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes and the chance to see more wildlife make it worthwhile. The hike to Miriakamba Hut takes about 3-4 hours from Maio Falls.

Packed Lunch: Enjoy a packed lunch at Miriakamba Hut while taking in the stunning views of Mount Meru and the surrounding areas. This is a perfect spot to relax and recharge before beginning the descent.

Descent: After lunch, begin your descent back to Momella Gate. The descent takes approximately 3-4 hours, offering more chances to spot wildlife and enjoy the beautiful forest scenery.

Return Journey: In the late afternoon, depart from Arusha National Park and return to your accommodation in Arusha, concluding a day filled with adventure and stunning natural beauty.
