Udzungwa Mountains National Park spans 1900 sq km, bordered by the Great Ruaha River to the north. Nestled near Mikumi National Park and Selous Game Reserve, Udzungwa was designated a National Park in 1992, transforming from its status as a national forest reserve. This park stands as one of the last true virgin and unique forested lands in the world.
Major Attractions: The park is celebrated for its biologically diverse forest, home to unique plant species, including the tiny African violet and towering 30-meter-high trees. Serving as a crucial water catchment area, the forest also harbors numerous endemic species of animals and plants. Visitors can marvel at spectacular mountain scenery, grasslands, rivers, and waterfalls. Notably, the park is home to the Iringa red colobus monkey and the Sanje Crested Mangabey, discovered only in 1979. Additionally, the park’s plateau supports elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards, African hunting dogs, and a variety of forest bird species.

Journey from Dar es Salaam to Udzungwa Mountains
- 8:00 am: Begin your safari with a 7-hour drive from Dar es Salaam to Udzungwa Mountains. Enjoy the scenic countryside and stop in Morogoro town for lunch.
- Afternoon: Continue the journey and check in for a 2-night stay at Udzungwa Falls Lodge.
- 7:30 pm: Dinner and overnight at Udzungwa Falls Lodge.
Explore Sanje Waterfalls in Udzungwa Mountains
- 7:00 am: Breakfast.
- 8:00 am: Set off on a five-hour hike deeper into the mountains along a rural path. Reach the stunning Sanje Waterfall, which plunges 170 meters (550 feet) into a forested valley. Set up camp near the waterfall.
- 1:00 pm: Enjoy a bush lunch in the mountains.
- 2:00 pm: Continue exploring the surrounding areas, and swim in the pools of the waterfall.
- 7:30 pm: Dinner and overnight at the campsite in Udzungwa Falls Lodge.
